KEY POINTS:
Thinking of chucking in your job to a enjoy a longer holiday over Christmas and summer?
Apparently you're not alone.
According to research conducted by a leading human resource outsourcing and recruitment agency in the Asia-Pacific, employers experience more resignations in December than during any other month of the year.
"The end of the year is when employees begin to re-evaluate their careers," said Nicholas Tuckfield, New South Wales general manager of Talent2.
"Whether it be burnout, a lack of work-life balance, no appreciation for hard work done, or even just the desire to start fresh."
He said companies were left in an awkward position when staff resigned in the three weeks before Christmas.
"Both managers and candidates are generally on holidays until mid-January, leaving recruitment processes suspended.
"Add to this all the candidates who have decided over the holiday period they want a new job and you have many positions available and many more people in the job market from mid to late January through until March.
"This is why the largest single weekend of employment advertising in the newspapers is usually on the third weekend in January."
Mr Tuckfield says the number of temporary roles being filled at the moment is "quite extraordinary".
"The holiday season coupled with the skills shortage means contractors and those willing to fill temporary positions have never been in a better position to negotiate.
