The policy director of the Christian Heritage Party has stepped down in the wake of his controversial comments about Graham Capill.
In an email sent last month, Mark Munroe debated the technicalities of the Capill case and said the former party leader's offences were not rape as defined by the Bible.
That sparked outrage from current party leader Ewen McQueen, who asked Mr Munroe to resign.
He did so this morning, saying it is because of the negative publicity surrounding his comments.
Mr Munroe said it was distressing that his comments, made in an email, were interpreted as minimising Capill's crimes. He said this was not intended.
Mr McQueen said Mr Munroe displayed a serious error of judgement.
