A Christchurch waka club has been left devastated after thousands of dollars of damage was done to equipment over the weekend.
Yesterday the New Brighton Waka Ama Club found its locked compound had been opened, with many canoes broken, tagged and thrown into the river.
One of the club's captains, Haimona Hale, said members were upset and now had to look at replacing what was damaged.
He said it looked like someone had access, and the club had to look at how that happened.
