The start of Daylight Saving this weekend will mean Christchurch's tsunami sirens will be tested once again.
Twenty-two tsunami warning sirens, which were installed from Waimairi Beach to Sumner in May last year, will be sounded for one to two minutes at 11am on Sunday.
The sirens will only be heard within a few blocks of the beach.
Manager of Civil Defence emergency manager Murray Sinclair said they are advising residents not to panic when they hear the sirens, as it will be just a test to ensure the system is working.
Mr Sinclair said it will be an ideal opportunity to make sure residents have an evacuation plan in place for their family and all the essential supplies ready.
