A fire has gutted a shop in a Christchurch mall overnight.
Fire services were called to the fire at Charity Barn in New Brighton Mall about 1.45am to find the building well ablaze.
It took five fire trucks to put the fire out, and they were still at the scene this morning, Fire Southern Communications shift manager Brent Dunn said.
A fire safety officer would return to the shop this morning to establish what caused the fire, Mr Dunn said.
No one was in the building at the time of the fire.
