Firefighters have spent most of the morning fighting a fire at the Hillsborough Tavern in Christchurch.
Fire fighters were called to the tavern in Curries Road in the suburb of Hillsborough, about 12.30am.
It was "well involved" when they arrived, said southern fire communications shift manager Brian Sharpe.
Nine appliances took about four hours to control the blaze. Two appliances remained at the scene this morning.
An estimate of the damage was not available this morning.
No other buildings were threatened, he said.
