Bird strike on power lines is believed to have caused a wide-spread power outage in eastern Christchurch this morning.
Power was cut to around 7000 customers in in Dallington, Westhaven and Mairehau from 7.05am.
Orion said the likely cause was bird strike on lines.
Power was restored by 8.15am.
