A police officer called out to a Christchurch home last night was allegedly assaulted by a man with a screwdriver.
Fetuao Mulinuu, 32, appeared from custody at Christchurch District Court today charged with assaulting the police constable using a screwdriver as a weapon.
He also faces charges of resisting arrest and intentionally damaging a woman's vacuum cleaner.
Mulinuu, a concrete worker from Riccarton, was granted bail by Judge Simon Menzies this afternoon.
He will reappear in court on October 19.
