Christchurch police have today busted a burglary ring targeting high-end hair care and fashion products.
Six people have been arrested and will appear in court over the coming weeks, police said.
A total of 40 police staff were involved in today's operation, which recovered stolen property from two addresses in Avonhead and Islington.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae of Canterbury CIB said Operation BAC has been investigating a crime group responsible for thefts worth around $200,000 during late 2010.
Mr Rae said the group committed more than 50 offences across Christchurch city, alleging the suspects specifically targeted clothing, hair care products including GHD hair strengtheners and also electronic equipment from retail stores.
"This has been a significant effort by the Christchurch CIB investigation team," Detective Senior Sergeant Rae says.
"It is a clear signal to criminals that in spite of the disruptions caused by the February earthquake, police are continuing to effectively target criminals in Christchurch.
"This was a large commercial theft and burglary ring and it's a great result to have brought it down so comprehensively."
