The jury has retired to consider its verdicts in the trial in the High Court at Christchurch in which three young men are charged with the murder of Timothy John Constable.
The jury retired at 12.40pm on the 17th day of the trial, and was immediately taken to lunch escorted by court staff.
The summing up by Justice Lester Chisholm took nearly two-and-three-quarter hours.
Three men are charged with the murder of Mr Constable in a violent incident outside a house in Todd Avenue, in the Christchurch suburb of Burnside, on August 7, 2009.
They are Adam Robert Gempton, 21, Steven Wayne Bright, 26, and Levi Michael Coombs, 18.
The crown alleges Mr Constable was the victim of a group attack but the three accused claim they acted in self defence.
