Police believe a fire started in sheds behind the Fendalton Library in Christchurch was deliberately lit.
Constable Wyeth of the Papanui Police said the Fire Service was called to the corner of Clyde and Jefferies Road about 2am this morning, where a "well developed" fire was raging at sheds behind the library.
The sheds and contents were significantly damaged as a result of the fire, he said.
Constable Wyeth is keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area overnight. He can be contacted on 03 374 1740.
