Around 50 members of the Japanese community in Christchurch have turned out to remember those who suffered in their homeland's quake and tsunami.
The Japanese Sand Memorial commemorates those who lost their lives in the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
The second anniversary is on Monday.
Part of the event is a huge sand sculpture created by local artist Peter Donnelley.
Organiser Kuniko Oki says many Japanese living in Christchurch have been dealt a double blow over the past two years.
