A Christchurch driver has been arrested just hours after a hit and run that seriously injured a motorcyclist.
The motorbike was travelling along Selwyn Rd towards Christchurch when the car reportedly turned in front of the bike onto Robinsons Rd just before 6.45am.
Witnesses said the bike hit the frontpassenger side of the car.
Police released a public appeal for witnesses.
A 44-year old man has now been arrested and charged with careless driving causing injury, failing to stop to ascertain injury and driving while disqualified. He will appear at Christchurch District Court at a later date.
Canterbury Police, who thanked the public for their help in locating the suspected driver, said investigations into the cause of the crash were ongoing.
