The Food Show planned for Christchurch this year has been cancelled.
Concerns for staff safety had led a number of key exhibitors to withdraw their stands and that made the show commercially unviable, organiser Dona White, chief executive of North Port Events, said today.
The show was postponed from the original dates, April 8-10, after the deadly February 22 earthquake, then shifted to September 9-11, before the cancellation decision was made.
Ms White said the decision was taken reluctantly but she understood the safety concerns that had prompted exhibitors to pull out, particularly as serious aftershocks continued to shake the city.
New dates have been set for The Food Show next year, from September 14-16 at the CBS Canterbury Arena.
