Airlines are working to clear a backlog of flights affected by fog earlier today at Christchurch International Airport.
Airport spokeswoman Nicole Were said flights were able to land after 10am and there was movement of flights in and out during the latter part of the morning.
Earlier airlines had either diverted incoming flights to other airports when the fog was bad or delayed their departure for Christchurch. The diversions included one in-bound international flight.
"Quite a number of flights didn't get in this morning and this means airlines are rescheduling flights and catching up with a backlog of passengers whose flights haven't been able to take off," Ms Were said.
The fog blanketed the airport just before dawn and the disruptions it caused delayed a "significant number" of travellers. Most would be moved on rescheduled flights during the day, she said.
