Five unoccupied buildings on Christchurch's New Regent Street have been cordoned off, after an engineering report identified them as dangerous and earthquake prone.
A member of the public called the City Council concerned about the buildings' safety following the Valentines Day earthquake - and the subsequent engineering report showed they were right to be concerned.
Consenting and Compliance Manager Peter Sparrow says the street remains open, but fences are blocking tram tracks, preventing them getting through which admits isn't ideal for tramways or business owners.
Tenants on New Regent Street have told Newstalk ZB the owner of the five buildings hasn't done any work on them during the rebuild.
