Firefighters will battle through the night to control a scrap timber scrub fire in the Christchurch suburb of Hornby.
Smoke billowing from the blaze is causing problems across the city, southern fire communications shift manager Jan Wills told NZPA.
The fire at the Owaka Road Eco Park was reported just before 6pm.
Two helicopters and 13 appliances have been used to control the flames and crews would continue working to extinguish the fire throughout the night, Ms Wills said.
