There have been 22 cases of gastroenteritis since the Christchurch earthquake.
The Canterbury District Health Board says that number is expected to rise.
Medical officer of health Dr Ramon Pink says the good news is that none of these cases is related to one another.
He says the thing we need to be vigilant about is if there's a cluster of cases with people infecting others.
He says if that happened, primary and secondary care would work closely together to manage it.
