The process for reuniting vehicles extracted from the Christchurch CBD with their owners has been passed from police to the Christchurch City Council.
So far 5548 vehicles have been recovered from the CBD and returned to their owners since the February 22 earthquake.
Meanwhile, Zone 7 of the CBD, which is bounded by Barbadoes, Chester, Madras and St Asaph Streets, is to open to residents and business owners tomorrow. It will then open to the public on Friday.

Around 30 vehicles recovered from the CBD remain unclaimed and will be securely stored at the cuncil's Sockburn Service Centre on Main South Road.
Owners who have been notified that their vehicles are awaiting collection, will from next Tuesday need to pick them up from the Sockburn Service Centre between the hours of 9am to 5pm.
Photo identification is required - such as a driver's licence or passport; along with a document that supports vehicle ownership or a signed letter of authority if they are picking up the vehicle on behalf of the owner.
Police advise vehicle owners no vehicle collections from Sockburn, or queries relating to the recovered cars and bikes, will take place during the Easter period.
