Christchurch Cathedral Dean steps down

The Dean of Christchurch Cathedral has confirmed rumours he is stepping down.

Peter Beck, who has been the face of the Cathedral in the wake of the Canterbury earthquakes, has today announced he will be standing for the Christchurch City Council.

He is putting his name in the hat for the Burwood-Pegasus ward, which is facing a by-election after the withdrawal of councillor Chrissie Williams due to ill health.
