Bouncers will soon need a certificate to man the doors of Christchurch bars.
From April 1, Christchurch's 45 inner-city bars would employ only staff holding security providers accreditation certificates, The Press reported.
The areas of knowledge covered by the certificate would include how to deal with drunk people, prevent drink spiking, when to use force and self-defence techniques.
Chairman of Christchurch CBD Alcohol Accord Peter Morrison called the annually-renewed certificate "kind of like a warrant of fitness".
"It's about being more pro-active, raising standards and getting better people into the industry."
