The Labour Party will decide Chris Carter's fate next Monday.
The decision on when to hear disciplinary proceedings was made this afternoon.
Mr Carter was suspended from the party after writing a letter aimed at destabilising Phil Goff's leadership and Party president Andrew Little says now Mr Carter's back at work, he is healthy enough to attend a meeting of the party's ruling council.
Mr Little would not say whether the party plans to move to expel him.
"He will respond to the allegations that we've already presented in writing to him and his representative back in August and after he's done that, he and his representative will be asked to leave and the NZ Council will then make a decision on what to do - the response to the whole matter."
