Chip watchdogs are putting the heat on takeaways serving undersized portions.
Industry organisation The Chip Group has told takeaways to use a standard scoop - so portion sizes are consistent and consumers get value for money.
A Herald on Sunday survey last month found half the portions bought from randomly-selected outlets weighed less than the recommended 330g serve.
The Chip Group chairwoman Glenda Gourley said their research at 500 shops also revealed inconsistencies and they're planning another test.
New Zealanders consume about 7 million servings of chips each week.
