A Chinese woman on a trip to New Zealand has pleaded guilty over a West Coast crash that killed her companion and injured two others.
Lijun Ma, 23, from Shanghai, was a front-seat passenger in a car being driven by Nana Zheng, 24, when it crashed on State Highway 73 south of Kumara on December 3.
Two other women who were in the vehicle, also from China, remain in a serious condition in Christchurch Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
All four women have been living and studying in Australia for several years. Their families were making arrangements to travel to New Zealand.
Zheng appeared in Greymouth District Court yesterday charged with careless driving causing death and two charges of careless driving causing injury.
