A night out in the Hawke's Bay has left a visiting Chilean wine maker in hospital after he was robbed by the people he gave a ride to.
Hastings police Sergeant Brent Greville said the 27-year-old man was in the Hawke's Bay for the wine harvest.
The man was left unconscious when he gave people a ride from a Napier bar in the early hours this morning, he said.
The man was found dazed and wandering near Karamu High School about 4am today.
Mr Greville said the man had lost all of his short-term memory and police had few details to go on.
"We're hoping his car turns up soon."
Police are appealing for sightings of a dark red 1987 Toyota Corolla hatchback, registration number NF8950.
Police were also reviewing CCTV footage for leads, he said.
Mr Greville said the man's wallet and mobile phone were also taken.
The man was being kept in Hastings Hospital overnight for observation, he said.
