A young mother used her two children, including an 18 month old, to smuggle drugs and tobacco to their father in New Plymouth Prison, police say.
The 24-year-old woman is due to appear in New Plymouth District Court tomorrow charged with attempting to take the contraband into the jail in her children's clothing, The Taranaki Daily News reported.
Police said the two children were found with the tobacco and cannabis hidden in their clothes as they were taken on a visit to see their father last week.
