Two children are "suffering immensely" after seeing their mother stabbed during a home invasion.
The 27-year-old woman suffered a punctured lung in the Sunday morning attack in in Morrinsville.
Tthe children who were in the house at the time of the attack - a nine-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy - were "suffering immensely" from seeing their parent stabbed, said Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter.
Police have recovered a loaded Ruger semi-automatic pistol, two knives and machete from the Waikato River.
The weapons were weighed down in a bag when they were found on Tuesday.
Mr Carpinter said the woman had been been released from hospital and was "recovering well".
A 30-year-old man, who was also in the house, is recovering after being slashed with a machete.
Four people have appeared in Hamilton District Court in connection with the home invasion.
A 36-year-old woman and three men, two aged 29 and the other 28, have been remanded in custody.
They are charged with aggravated burglary, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. They will also face other charges.
"There will be more charges laid, it's just a matter of sifting through all the information from the scene examination and from witnesses to decide what charges would be appropriate," Mr Carpinter said.
