Alfredton School's Kate Sims provided the highlight for the Wairarapa contingent contesting the inter-regional primary schools cross-country championships at Queen Elizabeth Park, Kapiti last week. Sims, one of five from Wairarapa representing Wellington against opposition from Canterbury, Tasman and Manawatu, finished second in the year 6 girls event. Also in that race was Teagan Andrews-Paul of Fernridge who was 22nd. In the year 8 girls event was Jessica Graham, who placed 13th while Patrick Wall was 30th in the year 6 boys race and Matthew Heard was 28th in the year 7 boys race. All the Wairarapa athletes picked up points for Wellington in the Phil Costley Shield teams event and in the end Wellington and Canterbury shared the spoils.
