A man has been convicted for serving alcohol and showing a pornographic movie to youths from a Canterbury rugby club's under-15 and under-17 teams on an overnight trip.
In Rangiora District Court yesterday, a 34-year-old local man, whose name has been suppressed in the interim, admitted exhibiting the movie, which had been classified as objectionable except to people over 18, the Press reported today.
He was convicted by Judge Oke Blaikie and remanded on bail to September 13 for a pre-sentence report and sentence.
Sergeant Jeff Kay said the youths' parents were angry about the incident, which the man admitted had been the "wrong thing to do". Counsel Mark Henderson said there had been a great deal of fallout, with the man being banned from the rugby club.
