Child, Youth and Family is concerned that a trend of using pxt cellphones to post child pornography on the internet has arrived in New Zealand.
The service has received its first complaint that a child was photographed in a compromising position by cellphone. The complaint has been referred to police and is understood to be before the courts.
"We have to be more aware of the possibility that these phones are being used against children," said CYF forensic interviewer Gill Basher, who raised the issue at a Child Abuse Forum in Wellington.
"From the child's position it just looks as though someone is checking their phone."
A British report has also warned against pxt cellphones.
