KEY POINTS:
Three children at a Palmerston North childcare centre have contracted hepatitis A after coming into contact with an infected parent.
Children at the Milson Head Start Educare Early Childcare Centre, along with staff and parents, have been tested after being alerted by Mid Central Health that one of the parents had hepatitis A.
Of the 47 people tested, three children returned positive results - one the child of the infected parent, and two others.
They have been told not to return to the centre for two weeks, when the infectious period is over.
Centre manager Johanna Korent said that all children, parents and staff had now been vaccinated against the disease.
Symptoms were often difficult to pick up as they mimicked those of the flu, she said.
