KEY POINTS:
A man was due to be charged with the attempted murder of his three children, including a baby, when he appeared in Lower Hutt District Court today.
The 30-year-old man, whose name suppression was continued, had previously been charged with a single count of assaulting the eldest child, a three-year-old girl.
The man was remanded in custody until April 10.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Levy said today three further charges of attempted murder in relation to the children and one of kidnapping relating to their mother would be laid when he reappeared in court.
The children -- girls aged three and 18 months and an eight-week-old boy -- remain in hospital after they were stabbed in their Naenae, Lower Hutt, home on February 18.
All three required surgery for extensive injuries but had since been transferred from Wellington to Lower Hutt hospital and were expected to be discharged soon.
