A toddler has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in a Tauranga driveway today.
The 16-month-old was being looked after by a family friend when he ran out onto a shared driveway on Ferndown Close and was hit by a car about 11.25am, Sergeant Mike Owen said.
The toddler was taken to hospital with injuries including a partially severed tongue and grazing from the concrete driveway.
Mr Owen said officers had spoken to people at the scene and were still talking to witnesses.
A Tauranga Hospital spokeswoman said the little boy was being examined in the emergency department at the moment.
