KEY POINTS:
A child is in hospital with burns after a caravan fire in the Auckland suburb of Avondale early today.
The fire service was called to the fire about 4.20am and said damage to the caravan was not great but details of how the fire began were not clear.
The eight year-old child was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition with burns on the chest and arms.
A woman and her two children were in the caravan which was parked near a house. It was not believed to be connected to the house's electricity supply.
