A child has been injured after a bus with six children on board overturned on a Wellington road this morning.
A police spokesman said the bus was travelling on South Makara Road when it flipped on its side as it tried to take a bend.
He said six children were on board when the accident happened just before 9am.
One of the young passengers had a cut lip and was treated by ambulance staff at the scene.
No one was taken to hospital.
The road, which runs between Karori and the coast, was very windy.
The bus had now been righted and the crash site cleared.
Police said there were no other vehicles involved and they were investigating the cause of the accident.
The Ministry of Education said this morning's crash involved a driver and six students travelling to Makara Model School.
Acting head of the Education Infrastructure Service Rob Giller said it was working with the bus operator to investigate what happened.
"We are also helping the police with their inquiries. We have offered support to the school," he said.
The safety of all children is our highest priority and we investigate all incidents involving school transport reported to the ministry, he said.
Makara Model School is a small country school catering for children from years 1-8.
One of the staff members was injured after being kicked in the face.
