A six-year-old child is in a stable condition after being hit by a car in a Wellington suburb this morning.
The crash occurred at Mark Ave and Cara Cres in Paparangi around 9.50am.
Police said according to initial reports, while the child's caregiver was putting their baby into their vehicle, the 6-year-old darted out between two vehicles in front of an oncoming car.
At the time, the child was in a serious condition, but that has since improved.
They said this is a timely reminder for motorists to slow down around schools and play centres.
