Child in serious condition after being hit by vehicle in Point Wells

Emergency services are responding to the incident on Shearwater Lane, Point Wells, near Ōmaha Beach.

A child has been seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Point Wells, north of Auckland, this morning.

The youngster - whose age has not been released - has been airlifted to Starship Children's Hospital.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Shearwater Lane, near Ōmaha Beach, shortly before 9am.

"The child was taken to hospital via helicopter in a moderate condition,'' police said.

However, a St John spokeswoman said the child was in a serious condition.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesman confirmed that they were called to the scene also to assist ambulance staff for a "medical response".
