KEY POINTS:
A child is in critical condition in Dunedin Hospital after the ute it was travelling in hit a bridge near Greenfield, northwest of Balclutha in Otago overnight killing an adult and a child.
Police said there were two adults and three children in the ute. The other adult and child were uninjured.
The adult and child died at the scene of the accident at around midnight.
