A boy is in a critical condition after an incident at a West Auckland beach this morning.
A St John spokeswoman says two people were flown by helicopter to hospital from Cornwallis Beach.
The child has been taken to Starship Children's Hospital and a male adult in his 40s is in a moderate condition in Auckland Hospital.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman said they were called to Cornwallis after reports of two people falling from a boat.
"A passing kayaker effected a rescue back to shore," he said.
