A six-year-old boy is dead after a car crash near Waipu in the early hours of Saturday morning, bringing Northland's road toll for the year to 13.
A vehicle containing two women and two children was heading south-bound on the Waipu Bypass of State Highway One, near Shoemaker Rd, when it veered off the road at around 2.30am.
Two ambulance, one St John rapid response vehicle, two Waipu brigade fire trucks and a van, and police attended the crash.
A six-year-old boy died at the scene, despite efforts to resuscitate him with CPR, an emergency services spokesperson said.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
