Fire services have extinguished a fire in a chicken shed at a rural Whanganui property.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said a disused chicken shed was on fire on Papaiti Rd.
Three appliances are in attendance from Whanganui.
Whanganui Fire Brigade senior station officer Shane Dudley said the chicken shed - that was 500 square metres in size - was demolished by the fire.
“We used a digger because we needed to get under all the roofing iron to put out the fire that was underneath.
“There were three crews up there and it was very time-consuming, it was labour intensive.”
A specialist fire investigator was currently at the scene to determine the cause of the chicken shed fire.
