Two Horowhenua College students have been rushed to Palmerston North hospital today after a chemical fire at the school.
The fire was contained in one classroom. A total six students were treated by St John ambulance officers after going through a portable decontamination shower.
The alarm was raised at 11.30am. Levin volunteer fire brigade responded, and called in back up from Otaki, Waitarere Beach and Shannon brigades, plus the HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) unit from Palmerston North. It is believed the two students inhaled fumes and were taken to hospital for further treatment.
Fire investigators were at the scene. At this stage the cause of the fire and the chemicals involved are not known.
