The final section of the inaugural lamb tasting event, Gate to Plate, took place at the Solway Showgrounds on Saturday as part of the Masterton A&P; Show.
Chefs from four local restaurants, Greytown's Wakelin House, Martinborough's Peppers Parehua and Medici Cafe, which joined forces, and The Gamekeeper were involved in the lamb-on-the-plate section, making three lamb dishes each to be judged.
Judging the cooked lamb was a panel of three - former Miss New Zealand Gay Williams, Olympic equestrian rider Tinks Pottinger and Martinborough food and wine connoisseur Larry McKenna.
Greytown's Wakelin House made the winning dish with lamb from a Dorset Down cross.
Organiser of Gate to Plate and Masterton A&P; Society president Allan Williams said about 100 spectators gathered to watch the judging of the event. "We were thrilled to bits with the numbers of spectators watching the judging and the dishes that the chefs presented were absolutely world class," Mr Williams said.
