UCOL Wairarapa cookery students have returned from a first-time bid at a Hawke's Bay contest with a haul of medals and prizes.
The team won the lamb, beef and cheesecake categories, and picked up six medals and two merits overall at the Hawke's Bay Central Salon Culinaire over the weekend, says UCOL cookery lecturer Damian Peeti.
Megan Tearle took a silver medal and merit award, Joseph Parata won a merit award, Casey Watson took two bronze medals, Thomas Pepper won two bronze medals and Cheryl-Kay Phillips took a bronze medal.
Mr Peeti, who holds a bachelor in culinary arts degree and is a qualified culinary judge, said the results were fantastic.
"This is the first time UCOL students have taken part in the Hawke's Bay competition, so winning awards is a real bonus. The students trained on top of their class time for this event, so I'm really proud of them."
