"We are the boys from down on the farm, we really know our cheese ... "
Ches and Dale - the Chesdale Cheese boys - have been singing their song since 1965 on New Zealand television screens.
But now the boys - proof that reinvented kiwiana is definitely cheesy - have been brought back to life and will be coming to a supermarket near you.
They made their real-life debut at another rural mainstay, the National Agricultural Fieldays, held last week at Mystery Creek, near Hamilton.
The processed cheese symbolised by the black-singleted and overall-wearing pair has been around for 70 years. The boys who really know their cheese have been singing its praises since 1965 but fell silent in 1975.
In 1997, after five years back on their Waikikamukau farm, Ches and Dale were given a new look and Ches junior was introduced.
After a variety of owners, Dairy Foods, a subsidiary of New Zealand Dairy Group, hold the rights to market the boys.
Brand manager Kellie Nathan seemed to think their personalities were getting better with age.
Ches - the short one in overalls - is the creative, Mr Fix-it type who wrestles with number 8 wire to build a glider.
Practical-minded Dale milks the cows "and gets things done," she said.
The duo are now on a two-month, nationwide tour spreading cheese and the word about its health benefits.
