SERVICE HONOURED: Eight Countdown Supermarket workers celebrated 150 collective years between them on Thursday.

Countdown Masterton celebrated 150 collective years of service from eight workers on Thursday.

Two large cakes displayed the number of years each worker had been working at the Queen Street supermarket.

Two workers had crossed off 30 years working at Countdown Masterton, one 25 years and another 20.

Two others had worked 15 years at the supermarket, one 10 years, and another worker had reached the five-year milestone.

Integrity Manager Lynne Russell, who has been working at Countdown for 30 years, said she enjoys her job and the "good bunch" of staff she works with.

She said she will no doubt be there for another 30 years as her "kids have grown up with me working here".

Seafood Manager Mike Murray has also been turning up at the Queen Street address for 30 years. He said he enjoys the friendly customers who come through the most.

Over three decades these workers have seen five different owners. The owners may change but the store and the customers are still the same, Mr Murray said.

However, he said the job is more fast paced now than ever.
