With long summer days and kids home from school, summer holidays can hit parents in the wallet.
But there are many ways to enjoy what the region has to offer and keep the kids entertained at the same time - without spending too much.
Destination Wairarapa general manager David Hancock has some ideas for cheap, family-friendly activities around the region. From bush walks to beach visits, there are a variety of activities to keep the family busy over the holidays.
"Summer is a great time to experience the great scenery and diverse landscape within the Wairarapa," he said. "I'm sure all locals have their own special beach spot, mountain walk or swimming hole and I hope they plan to share this local knowledge with their family and friends."
