Cheap iodine tablet

Thousands of new or expectant mothers could benefit from a newly-funded iodine-only tablet, the drug buying agency Pharmac says.

NeuroKare, a 150mcg pill, costs $1 a month for pregnant or breastfeeding women and could replace more expensive supplements.

Pharmac medical director Peter Moodie said an estimated 65,000 women could benefit from the drug.
