Homes.co.nz estimated the cost for a level vacant section in the Auckland region is $654,000, but could be as little as $515,000 in the western suburbs.
Spokesman Jeremy O'Hanlon said a number of sections went for even less with one 551sqm plot in Papakura selling in February this year for just $287,000.
Currently QV has the average value of an Auckland home at $1.04m; in Lynfield it is $1.03m.
A description of the Halsey Dr property and photos described it as being in an overall good condition, though it would likely need a bit of a spruce-up.
"The house is in good condition, structurally but the interior needs a cosmetic touch up," read the listing. "It would make a perfect first home or a rental. The boomerang shape allows you to position this house on your property to get all day sun."
Photos show threadbare carpet in a few of the rooms, dated wallpaper in others and evidence of some DIY labour having taken place in the vast kitchen area.
A spokeswoman for NZ House Removals said so far there hadn't been any interest in the house which had been listed on TradeMe at the end of March.
Meanwhile, a developer has also offered up a home - this one for free to anyone sitting on a piece of empty land.
The cost of moving would fall to the buyer, at an estimated price of around $24,000.
"Developer Dave donates home to Auckland's deepening housing shortage," the listing read.
"We urge councils, merchants and other associated organisations to get behind this project."
The 106sqm house, at 7 Patrick St in Onehunga, which comes with three bedrooms and a bathroom, has an estimated value of about $185,000.
The 1950s weatherboard bungalow appeared to be in good condition in the photos.
The developers said it could be good for a future home, extra farm house or temporary accommodation.
