More than 1500 people helped to raise more than $31,000 by taking part in the Woodville Lions Club annual fundraising walk through the Manawatu Gorge.
The event took place on Sunday with walkers and runners covering an 8km course.
Woodville Lions Club president Steven Silcock said it was a highly successful event. "Tickets were sold out early in the week, soon after going on sale," he said.
A third of the money raised went to the Palmerston North Hospice with the rest of the money raised going into the coffers for other local organisations, Mr Silcock said.
Meanwhile, Anna Kinvig, who took part in the event with 11-year-old son Ben, said it was a well-organised walk/run and well worth taking part in. "We didn't have to wait when we arrived. We were bused straight in ... there were medics and people waiting at the bridges in case anything untoward happened.
